What is the pelvic floor?

The pelvic floor is the 3 layers of muscles that sling along the bottom of your pelvis similar to a hammock. This area of your body is responsible for important functions of the bladder and bowels as well as sexual function and birthing a baby. Pelvic floor physical therapists are trained to evaluate and treat dysfunctions in the pelvic floor through a variety of techniques including a total body assessment approach, which may or may not include internal assessment, specialized hands on techniques, exercises, and lifestyle management.

What To Expect

Step 1

Your pelvic floor physical therapy visit starts with us meeting one on one in my private office for a 1 hour initial evaluation. During your evaluation we go over your medical history, any concerns, and current issues you’re looking to resolve. After listening I will then ask you some questions about your bladder, bowel, and sexual health and educate you about your pelvic anatomy.

Evaluation

Step 2

Once we have a good understanding of your goals I will do an initial assessment. This includes taking a look at your posture, alignment, mobility, strength, and if indicated and only with your permission an internal assessment. The internal assessment is only performed with your informed consent and any assessment or treatments can be modified based on your level of comfort.

Initial Assessment

Step 3

Create Treatment Plan

Together, we discuss and create a sustainable treatment plan that works for your goals and lifestyle.

Telehealth Option

Virtual appointments are a great way to have your PT session if you are traveling, live far from our location, or are not feeling well but still want to have an appointment. Through video we can communicate and you can receive advice, education, and have your progress monitored. It is an excellent way to get started and/or stay on track with your PT program with the guidance of an expert.

Client Testimonial:

“Working with Diana changed my life. Before having a baby I was very athletic. I ran and lifted regularly. Diastasis recti and the pain that it caused wrecked all of that for a year and a half, but the one-on-one work that I did with Diana got me back on track. I have no more pain and I'm back to the gym, feeling better than ever.”
